“Website designer near me” is the search almost every small business starts with — and the results page it produces deserves a second look before you call anyone on it. Some of those listings are local builders who will answer their own phone. Some are national sales funnels with a local-looking page. Here is how that list gets built, and the five checks that tell the difference.
For near-me searches, Google leads with the map pack: businesses ranked by their Google Business Profile — category, distance, review count and rating, and how complete the profile is — before it ever gets to regular website results. That is why the businesses at the top tend to be the ones with finished profiles and fresh reviews, not necessarily the biggest companies. (It is also why we publish a checklist for getting your own profile there.) A designer who understands this is already telling you something about how they will build for you.
A builder confident in their pricing puts it on the website. If the only way to learn the cost is a consultation call, expect the number to be sized to your wallet instead of your project. Published prices also let you compare honestly: our complete sites are $800 flat — the full breakdown is in the cost guide — and any local designer worth hiring should be able to show you the equivalent page.
Ask it directly: if we part ways, what do I keep? The answer you want is everything — domain in your name, files you can move, Google history that stays with your business. Anything less is a rental, and rentals are the most expensive way to own nothing.
Portfolios should name real businesses you can look up — ideally ones in your own corridor whose owners you could ask. Vague screenshots and stock mockups are not a portfolio. Our work page shows live client sites, and the reviews on our Google profile come from the same local businesses.
Ask how long a build takes once your materials are in, and who you will actually talk to during it. Local should mean a person: our builds are typically live 12–24 hours after the completed questionnaire and materials arrive, and the person who builds your site is the person who picks up when you call after. If the answers route through a ticket system in another time zone, “near me” was just an ad.
A website is not finished at launch — prices change, photos age, Google rewards fresh reviews and updated pages. Ask what upkeep costs and what it includes before you sign. Ours is simple: $200/year admin after year one covers hosting, updates, and upkeep, and marketing runs in published 3-month blocks when you want to push harder.
Published prices, your name on the domain, real local work, a real timeline, and a real person after launch. Samson Select Marketing is based in Bonney Lake and builds for businesses across the corridor — Tacoma, Puyallup, Auburn, and Bonney Lake itself — with Klarna financing available on builds. I only take on a few builds at a time so every project gets my full attention. Start with a free visibility check or an instant estimate, and judge us by the same five checks.
